Why Vimeo?

For a number of years, BMM has been subscribing to Vimeo for video hosting. There are a number of reasons for this. However, it goes without saying that from time to time we should review whether this medium suits our needs moving into the future. At our last committee meeting yesterday, we discussed video storage at length.
Our main marketing presence is via our Wix website. It provides a professional looking, functional and modern website for reaching our existing and potentially new members. However, we do not host our videos on Wix directly. Rather we copy a link from wherever your movie is hosted and paste that link on our BMM website (of course, this is only if you are happy for it to be posted there).
Why Vimeo and not Youtube? Initially, it was felt that Vimeo offered a number of reasons over Youtube for hosting with them. However, over time, the playing field has been more than levelled and we feel that a move back to Youtube will offer the club more value in terms of hosting for promotion, viewing, archiving and cost. As such, Joel has volunteered to set up a new Youtube account for BMM and to transition all of our movies over time to the site. This could take some time as there are 314 of our movies currently on Vimeo.
We will continue to host our movies on Vimeo until the transition is complete. Any new movies will be uploaded to our new Youtube site- not to Vimeo. Please advise Joel if you want a movie added as a BMM movie to Youtube.
For now, Vimeo offers the opportunity to create Various showcases. I have created a few to highlight the best films of various years. See Showcase from 2024 , Showcase from 2025, Club Projects, 2021 Film Event; and Historical.
What do I do with my movies?
As movie makers, our members have the opportunity to post their own videos on their own video host of choice. For example, any movies that I make at school, I host on a platform called 'Clickview' (an education site); Any personal drone movies, I host on my own Youtube site. However, we want to save and display any movies created by us that we consider to be a part of what we do at BMM on a BMM youtube site; and on our BMM website. You can do both your own and BMM hosting of your movies if you want to. It isn't compulsory though.
I often have people asking where to find our BMM movies in Vimeo. If you search for Brisbane Movie Makers in google, it will come up. Alternatively, click the links in this post.
