Changing of the Guard

After such a positive meeting last fortnight with the screening of 'Quiet Achievers', tonight was a time to be back in the planning mode. Where do we go from here? What do we want to achieve?
It was a small crowd tonight of approximately 12-14 people. Unfortunately, with the coming of bad news, our first order of business was recognising the passing of past BMM member Peter Allan.
According to Neil Reville, Peter had been a member for some 10 to 15 years. He had not been a member for the last 2, so not everyone knew him. In a tribute to Peter, we played 'Lies and Love' (which Peter wrote); and was directed by Catherine Cox (another former BMM member). Thankyou Catherine for providing the link.
We also managed to play a BTS in honour of Peter. He won a script writing competition at BMM for this. It also won best short film that year.
We followed this with a brighter update by Peter Waterman, where he shared some of the recent green room activities. One was a number of interviews about humour in movies. (see above). Peter followed this up with an introduction to his next major project, which will focus on 'Creativity'. Very interesting! Can't wait for this one to get happening!
Of course, it was also time to review our recent cinema excursion with 'Quiet Achievers' at New Farm Cinema. All of us agreed that feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the audience finding the movie inspirational and professional. Fortunately, Peter Waterman has created a BTS of the evening. See above. Thanks for the massive effort Peter as I know that you were not well that night.

We finished the evening with a half hour discussion of future directions of the club. I delivered a powerpoint presentation. The summary would be as follows:
We are a club that is achieving.
We are a club that has everything it needs to move forward.
We have a secretary and a treasurer ready to work for the club.
We need a president now or the club will be forced to fold.
Thankyou Nigel for explaining what is expected from the President role. This was very helpful.
Importantly, I made a proposal that we consider a new format:
Every 1st Thursday a regular BMM meeting;
Every 3rd Thursday- a collaborative planning meeting where we sit down and plan projects. This could include: brainstorming ideas; storyboarding, scriptwriting, acting auditions, shot lists etc. If we get the planning done and do it collaboratively, not only will we create great product, but I believe attract more outsiders.
Fortunately, Gareth Macready looks like he is willing to take the club forward as our new president. We will make that a priority issue to finalise at our next meeting on the 17th September. Thanks Gareth, we look forward to your participation as our leader.
I believe this will help the club to get back to its focus of 'making movies' by doing it collaboratively. Hopefully this will help those members who are less confident or more shy.
