We had 18 in attendance and what has to be close to a record haul of 17 short movies to watch. Talk about a bumper evening! For those who missed out on the meeting (David, you missed out on a L-O-T!), they're linked in the blog, thanks to Paul, our https://www.bmm.org.au/ web site guru.
Reminder: AGM on 1 June 2023 at 7:30pm~8:00pm at the IndroHall
The nomination forms have been circulated to club members to nominate for a position on the Committee if they are interested, and if they would like to participate in the running of BMM. The committee meets about once a month and handles the day to day running of BMM.
UGG Judging
The Secretary will develop a simplified judging form to add objectivity to the process which he will circulate to members for feedback.
You are Not Alone - Project
A very special evening will be happening soon at the Elizabeth St Theatre (where the BMM Awards were shown). Hosted by our own Punny President Pete, it will present his special film that includes 13 interviews with people who struggle with mental health. This is a subject close to Peter's heart and is a labour of love. I am told that as 58 out of 60 seats in the Harp Room have been sold, Peter has upgraded to the Tara room which seats 130. It's being held during Men's Health Week in June 15th, and it is being held in lieu of a general club meeting night at the IndroHall. If you want to, you can have a meal beforehand at the Thai restaurant next door. If not, gather at about 6:45pm at the bar in the theatre for a 7:30pm premiere kick off! If you haven't bought your tickets, they are available for $12.50 each at https://trybooking.com

Mobile (phone) Movies
This was the theme of the meeting night. Members had been tasked a several months ago to shoot a movie on their mobile device. The following stunning creations were the results:
Twin Falls Nature Walk
For those that missed it in their calendar (namely Murray ha ha!), we got to watch two short productions taken by Glenn and Paul of their recent visit to Twin Falls Springbrook. Paul tells me that it was about a two hour leisurely walk to and from the falls, where they spent just as much time exploring the caves, precipices, vistas, falls and rockpools. They shot only on iPhones and gimbals. Glenn beautifully narrated his Twin Falls - an Incredible Short Walk to enhance his production whilst Paul chose an audio only approach to let the images and ambient sound do the talking. Both featured stunning imagery captured on their mobile phones. The optics and 4K resolution has come a long way from the 240p and 360p days of the first mobile phone cameras.
Doggy Day Out
Nigel showed his humourous take of his canine on a mission using only a selfie-stick and an iPhone to create a POV movie. He also demonstrated (briefly) that iPhones are water proof! Apple's iPhone 13 and 14 are both rated IP68, meaning you can submerge them in water up to 6 meters for a period of 30 minutes. If doing so in sea water, it's recommended to give your phone a rinse in fresh water afterwards to remove any sand and salt crystals.
Deluge
Deluge was shot during the heavy rains in January 2023 by Peter Wetter Man. The footage was taken of the flooded park literally at his door step. Thankfully the water levels did not rise and reach his home.
Grand kids boxing day punch and The Grand kids - 7 of the best
Peter showed us two short movies that incorporated video footage and photos to create a montage set to music of his beloved grand kids
Peta's Possum Baby
Peter video documented a short visit in his pergola of a possum and it's charming baby, which Peter named Peta.
Ty Meditation
Peter experimented using a gimbal and an iPhone to record a soothing and calming meditation of his good friend, Ty.
Nowhere Man
The Nowhere Man was one of Peter's first short films, shot entirely on an iPhone 14 Pro (before it became a thing), featuring our own David and Jenn as cast. Its cinematic mode offers stunning bokeh and built-in stabilisation
Sunnybank Men's Shed with John Paul Young
Peter shot footage on the inner goings on of the Sunnybank Men's Shed. It features an original sound track and our very own Paul manning the tools
Early Morning
This short video documented one of Peter's early morning bush walks hidden in his local area. Despite falling into a hole, he soldiered on to capture lovely footage of his local flora and fauna.
8 PRO Smartphone Filmmaking Tips For Beginners
In keeping with the mobile theme, Peter rounded off the theme of the evening with a YouTube video offering 8 Pro Smartphone film making tips for beginners. Definitely worth a watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAhA3RBEZfA
Members Movies
Same Way
Ross showed us two of his recent productions, a music video titled Same Way which was shot in his studio, followed by an interview featuring its budding music artist, Deon Powter. I think both Ross and Deon enjoyed the interview very much.
UGG 2.0 - The Loved One
Ever the one wanting to improve, Murray re-edited The Loved One which he had submitted for the recent UGG competition. He had taken on board the comments made by judge Justin and improved it. Watch it and see his improvements.
